Different departments?  Different offices?   Different procedures being followed with regards client care, money laundering, risk, conflicts and/or closing?   This would be the norm for many law firms, but it is not the way to control risks within your firm.   

Lawyers are frustratingly obstinate when it comes to changing even those things that they don't even really want to do in the first place!   Any incursion into their domain is an a affront to their expertise and their desire to craft a work of art to welcome any new client to the firm.   An affront it may be - but of course the reality is that for every great work of art, there are invariably two or more files where there is a total failure to have the correct compliance documentation on the file in the first place.  

Somehow, law firm managers need to demonise the existence of the compliance obligations - not that hard to do, given the ever increasing volume.   Having done so, explain the extent to which such minutiae is beneath the dignity of such highly trained and exalted staff.   Finally, find ways to ensure compliance with compliance is concentrated in either fewer hands and/or more automated and standardised processes.   Finding the way to divorce the compliance obligations on a file from the substantive work to be done by the most qualified staff has the potential to increase both consistency and efficiency in ensuring that firms are audit proof; in terms of the SRA, Lexcel and other quality criteria.
